Gunshot fatality

Two suspects were arrested after a 30-year-old man was shot and killed Friday evening in Olivehurst, according to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident was reported around 7:10 p.m. as a verbal altercation near the 1700 block of Sixth Avenue, sheriff’s officials said Saturday in a news release.

Arriving deputies found the man with apparent gunshot wounds, authorities said. He was taken to Adventist Health and Rideout, where he later died.

Detectives responded to the scene and were able to identify the suspects’ vehicles. That led to the arrests of Adrian Vega, 21, of Yuba City and Namee Najarro, 24, of Marysville, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department said.

Vega and Najarro were arrested on suspicion of homicide, assault with a firearm and other firearm-related charges, officials said. Yuba County Jail records showed Vega in custody without bail, while Najarro was not listed in jail records as of Saturday morning.

The victim’s identity will be released after next of kin are notified.

The investigation remained active, and anyone with information was asked to contact the Yuba County Sheriff’s Department at 530-749-7777. Tips may be submitted anonymously.
