LONG BEACH/FULLERTON, Calif. – THe Cal State Fullerton Titans women’s water polo team split their day on Saturday with a loss at No.8 Long Beach State before coming back home and defeating Macalester College.
The Titans moved to 17-12 overall and 1-4 in conference play after Saturday’s games.
Game 1, Cal State Fullerton 3, Long Beach State 22
The Titans and Long Beach State were in a competitive game before No.8 Long Beach State scored 16 unanswered goals to defeat the Titans women’s water polo team in the first game of the day.
The Titans trailed 5-1 after the first quarter with Destiny Hernandez scoring the first Titans goal of the day to make it a 1-1 game early in the first quarter.
The Titans scored twice to start the 2nd quarter before goals from Sofia Moschetti and Mia Hatch to make it 6-3. Â Long Beach then scored 16 goals the rest of the way and shutout the Titans. Â The Beach added six goals after the score was 5-3 to take an 11- 3 lead over the Titans in halftime. Â The Titans were shutout in the second half while allowing Long Beach seven goals in the third quarter and four goals in the fourth quarter.
Renske Boxsem made six saves in the first 24 minutes of play. Â Alexandra Ortiz played the final quarter and made one save.
Game 2, Cal State Fullerton 19, Macalester 3
In the Titans second game of the day against Macalester at home, they flipped the scrip from the earlier game.
The Titans jumped to an early 4-1 lead in the first quarter and never looked back the rest of the way. The Titans outscored the Scots 7-0 in the second, 5-0, in the third, and 3-2 in the fourth quarter.
Kenzie Searle and Emme Doube-MacLeod led the team in points with five ach. Searle had three goals and two assists while Emme Doube-MacLeod had two goals and three assists. Delaney Latham also scored three goals. Abby Lockman and Sofia Moschetti both scord braces. Destiny Hernandez, Mia Hatch, Mia Solorzano, Jade Lonzo, Chandler Burrell, Lotte Boxsem, and Isabella Schulze all found the back in the win over Macalester. Alex Ortiz drew the start and made five saves over the first half and allowed just one goal. Isabella Walker played the entire second half and made four saves and allowed just two goals.Â
The Titans will play just one game next weekend as they host UC Davis on Sunday, March 29th. The match is set to begin at 12:00 with a senior ceremony that will take place before the game honoring the Titans eight seniors.Â
NOTES: Mia Solorzano scored her first 100th career goal for the Titans in the first quarter. She is the second Titan in women’s water polo program history to reach that mark.
