Rex Aaron Hinkle Jr.
OBITUARY
Rex Hinkle, Jr. , 79, of San Jose, CA, passed away at his home on February 21, 2026.
Rex was born on February 23, 1946, to Rex Hinkle, Sr. and Kathryn Hinkle, in Hartford, KY. The oldest of five children, he was raised in Illinois. When Rex was 9, he contracted polio. In spite of the lifelong effects of the illness, Rex never let it hinder him and was known for his “can do” attitude and active life.
Rex went on to graduate from University of Illinois with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He later earned an MBA from Golden Gate University.
In 1970, he married Kathy Stier of Muskego, WI, and they settled in Mountain View, CA, where they adopted and raised their three children, Wade, Aaron and Shawn. Rex worked for Philco Ford on mission critical work for the war effort in Vietnam. As his unit was bought and sold several times over the years, he eventually retired in 1996 from Lockheed Martin, where he managed multi-million-dollar budgets for large projects.
Rex first chose to serve the Lord when he was 8 and his faith remained until his death. He and Kathy had Christian Fellowship meetings in their home for nearly 40 years. After retirement, they moved to Hollister and finally settled in San Jose.
Rex is survived by his wife Kathy; children Wade (Alesia) Hinkle of Chattanooga, TN, Aaron Hinkle of the Bay Area, CA, and Shawn June of Indianapolis, IN; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister Trish (Dave) Walter of Oakwood, IL and brother Steve Hinkle of Albuquerque, NM. He was preceded n death by parents, Rex, Sr. and Kathryn, and brothers Bobby and David Hinkle.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026 at 11:00 am, at the clubhouse at The Villages Golf and Country Club in San Jose, CA. All are invited to attend in person or by watching the livestream.
