OBITUARY

Richard “Chris” L. Christopherson, Structural Engineer, passed away at home on February 21, 2026, at the age of 97. Chris was born in Sioux Falls, SD, on May 29, 1928, to Norman and Verna Christopherson. His one sister Donna, preceded him in death in 2005. Chris attended the University of Minnesota, where he graduated in 1951 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. He then accepted a position as an engineer with North American Aviation in Los Angeles, CA. In 1953, Chris joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Civil Engineer Corps until 1957. He received his discharge from the Navy and began work for the City of San Diego as a Civil Engineer with the Building Inspection Dept. During his 34-year career, Chris became the Principal Structural Engineer and Director of the Building Inspection Dept. While working for the City, Chris met Patricia Shirley Stabler, and in 1978, they were married. He became a loving stepfather, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Chris enjoyed reading, playing bridge, and the Padres. He was an exceptional golfer, making nine holes-in-one. He remained a proud member of the San Diego Country Club for nearly six decades. Chris will be remembered for his steady presence, thoughtful counsel, dedication, quiet integrity, and deep love for his family.
