OBITUARY

James Pennell Syren Jr., a native of San Diego, passed away on February 16, 2026, after a brief illness and a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 27, 1940, the only child of Harriet Wolcott Syren and James Syren.

While attending the University of Arizona, Jim was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. It was there that he met his love, Sally Lawrence of Phoenix, Arizona. They were married for over 62 years, building a life filled with devotion, partnership, and deep friendship.

After earning his B.S. in Finance, Jim attended the Navy Officer Candidate School. Upon earning his commission as an Ensign, Jim served two tours of duty in Vietnam and retired from active service as a Lieutenant with the Beachmaster Unit One, based in Coronado.

Following his military service, Jim began a successful career as a stockbroker and later transitioned into insurance, where he worked until his retirement.

Jim was an exceptional sportsman. He excelled at golf, loved ocean fishing from his boat, and was an enthusiastic racehorse owner, sharing that passion with his closest friend.

Known for his unwavering integrity, positive spirit, and genuine kindness, Jim was always a gentleman. He touched many lives and was a loyal friend to all who knew him.

Jim is survived by his cousins, Dede and husband, Clark Hubbs of La Canada, CA, Paul Wolcott of Cleveland, TN, Wendie Casaus of Taos, NM and God-daughter Kelly and husband Scott Noffsinger of Scottsdale, AZ.

There will be no formal service, and Jim will be buried at sea, a place he truly loved.
