Re “Cesar Chavez, civil rights icon, accused of years of sexual abuse” (March 19): I am deeply saddened by the allegations that have been made against Mr. Chavez. However, these accusations should not detract from the cause to which he dedicated his life: the plight of migrant and seasonal farmworkers in America.
More than three decades after the passing of Cesar Chavez, America’s farmworkers face unfair treatment on a daily basis. This includes constant exposure to toxic pesticides, poverty-level wages and substandard housing conditions.
I do not condone the actions of Cesar Chavez. However, I will continue to advocate for our nation’s exploited farmworkers.
