(FOX40.COM) — A motorcyclist is dead after crashing on Interstate 5 in Sacramento.

First responders received a report Friday after 10 p.m. of a traffic collision on northbound I-5, just south of Pocket Road, the California Highway Patrol said Saturday.

When officers arrived, they found a motorcycle and its rider in the third lane of I-5. Officials said initial investigations showed the motorcyclist lost control and was thrown off before being struck by a passing vehicle.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts by first responders.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.

Officers said the driver of the other vehicle stayed at the scene and cooperated with police.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the motorcyclist’s identity after their next of kin is notified.
