Re “La Mesa grapples with its parking shortage” (March 16): Wow! What a surprise. Our city and state leaders allow developers to build apartments with substandard parking allowances — all in the name of affordable housing, assuming that a large percentage of occupants will use mass transit to get from point A to B. This has been proven to be a fantasy at the least. San Diego County is geographically spread out too much for mass transit to be something we can count on to alleviate parking issues in the areas in which these new apartments are being built. When will our leaders wake up to this reality? The masses will never give up their cars in counties set up like ours.
