The San Diego Unified School Board has begun a process to change the name of Cesar Chavez Elementary School.
This comes following reports of allegations that Chavez raped the co-founder of the Farm Workers Union, Delores Huerta, and sexually abused underage girls.
A statement from the school district says the renaming of the school will be a structered community -driven process designed to ensure transparency, inclusivity and meaningful engagement.
The process will also include the formation of a naming committee, and multiple opportunities for students, families, staff and community members to provide input.
