Tev’s & Family Kitchen, a virally popular Vermont Square Jamaican soul food restaurant, just expanded with a second location in Gardena. Located on a stretch of South Figueroa Street off the 110, Tev’s second location will be open Tuesday to Sunday serving its famous macaroni and cheese and jerk salmon.
Owner Tevin Love opened the original Vermont Square location in January 2024. Today, long lines form along the front of the recognizable bright red building for a taste of Love’s oxtails and sweet chile wings. Every day brings a slightly different menu: Thursdays are marked by Cajun shrimp pasta, while Fridays bring rib-eye steak strips and grilled lamb chops. For now, Tev’s Kitchen Gardena will operate from 1 to 8 p.m., with a menu of rib-eye, fried catfish, jerk shrimp, honey hot wings, mashed potatoes, and more.
Gluten-free pizza at Pizzeria Mozza
After 20 years, Pizzeria Mozza just introduced gluten-free pizza for the first time. Gluten-free square pies, made with dough from Truman’s Bakery, can now be had for lunch and dinner. (Those with celiac disease should check with the restaurant for cross-contamination information before partaking.)
Woon Pasadena will collaborate with Molly Baz and her mayonnaise brand, Ayoh, on March 26 for a dinner benefitting local non-profit Mad Collective. Look forward to dishes including a fried orange chicken sandwich with chile crisp Ayoh spread and chile crisp potato salad with miso Ayoh dressing.
New brunch dishes at Holy Basil Atwater
Holy Basil’s Atwater outpost just added a handful of new dishes to its new weekend-only brunch menu, including kao tom; Thai rice porridge with pork patties, ginger, and fried garlic; and boat noodles with braised beef shank. The dishes join the rest of the lunch menu, which spans crispy rice salad, green curry, gra pow, and more.
