SAN GABRIEL VALLEY BASEBALL TOP 20

1. SOUTH HILLS (10-1)

The Huskies opened the Hacienda League with a three-game sweep of Los Altos, allowing just four runs during the series. Next up is a three-game series against struggling San Dimas (3-5) this week. The Saints have talent, they’ve just played a tough schedule.

2. LA MIRADA (8-2)

The Matadores have won four straight, which includes an impressive 4-2 win over La Cañada and a 7-2 win over Aliso Niguel. They begin Gateway League play this week with a three-game series against Gahr. They look destined for Division 1 of the CIF-SS playoffs again.

3. GANESHA (5-0)

The Giants opened the Miramonte League with a surprisingly close 4-1 victory over Edgewood. The Giants are the overwhelming favorite to win the league title, so any close game against league foes is a surprise.

4. BISHOP AMAT (8-2)

The Lancers recovered from their lone Del Rey League loss against La Salle with a two-game sweep of rival St. Paul, winning 13-3 and 7-0. The Lancers are 5-1 in the Del Rey League with a two-game series against St. Bernard next.

5. ARCADIA (8-2)

The Apaches are 6-0 in the Pacific League, have swept Muir and Hoover over the past two weeks. They’re on an upswing, having allowed just 19 runs all season. They have a two-game series against Pasadena before getting ready for the National Classic.

6. MARANATHA (6-2)

The Minutemen have won six straight. They swept a three-game series with Whittier Christian to open the Olympic League. Looking at the rest of their schedule, the wins should continue to pile up.

7. LA SALLE (8-3)

The Lancers’ hot streak was slowed by St. Bernard, which beat the Lancers in back-to-back games to drop them to 3-2 in the Del Rey League. They rebounded with a 5-2 win over Covina, but a team trying to win the league title needs to avoid being swept.

8. LA CANADA (8-3)

The Spartans stepped away from the Rio Hondo League after a perfect 3-0 start and were shut out by Bonita, 6-0. They have another big nonleague test against Crescenta Valley before a showdown against Monrovia on Friday.

9. MONTEBELLO (9-2)

The Oilers have won nine straight, which includes a 6-1 win over Alhambra and a sweep of San Gabriel. They’re 7-0 in the Almont League. They have a good nonleague test Wednesday against El Rancho.

10. MONROVIA (9-2-1)

The Wildcats have clawed their way back to the Top 10. They’re 2-0 in the Rio Hondo League with a big game at La Cañada on Friday. Troy Grise leads the area in home runs (6) and RBIs (23).
