Police contacted 322 vehicles during the operation.

In addition to the DUI arrests, 34 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license.

Officials said DUI checkpoint locations are based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.

The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

The next DUI enforcement operation will be a DUI checkpoint scheduled for April 3rd.

Funding for the March 21 checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
