Fresno firefighters rescued two people from the San Joaquin River near Highway 41 Sunday evening after reports they were yelling for help, officials said.
Crews arrived just before 8 p.m. and found the individuals clinging to tree branches in the river’s moving water, the Fresno Fire Department said in a statement.
Members of the department’s Water Rescue Team reached the victims using boats and brought them safely to shore. One person was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
Officials warned that rivers can be dangerous, even when appearing calm, and urged caution as warmer weather draws more people to waterways.
