FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — Police say a man was shot to death on Friday night in downtown Fresno.

The shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. outside of Sun Stereo Warehouse on Fulton Street near Inyo Street.

When officers arrived, they found 38-year-old Meharie Kidane suffering from gunshot wounds.

He was taken to the hospital by EMS, but did not survive.

Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto held a news conference on Monday to provide an update on the case.

“There was a party at the warehouse,” said Casto. “It was advertised via social media, and about 600 tickets had been sold at the time of the shooting.”

It appeared that there were about 300 people in attendance at the party when a fight broke out.

“The security at the location decided to clear the place out, and once the fight broke out and people spilled out onto the street, at which time the shooting occurred, it sounded like quite a bit of chaos,” she said. “Multiple people were running from the location for obvious reasons. When officers arrived, they found the victim.”

Detectives are still investigating what led up to the shooting and are looking for any additional witnesses.
