Oakland County’s Five Golf Courses Prepare to Open in April
(Oakland County Parks, March 23, 2026)
OAKLAND COUNTY, MI – While warmer temperatures have already provided a sample of spring, a sure sign the seasons are changing is when the five golf courses operated by Oakland County Parks open. Glen Oaks, Lyon Oaks, Red Oaks and Springfield Oaks golf courses will open on Wednesday, April 1, weather permitting. Due to construction, opening day for White Lake Oaks Golf Course is set for Saturday, April 4.
“Golfers, as well as our staff, are always eager for the opening day,” Chief Park Operations and Maintenance – North District Tom Hughes said. “Oakland County Parks takes pride in providing an excellent experience for guests and maintaining beautiful, scenic golf courses that keep play affordable and available to everyone. Golf is a great way to help meet health and fitness goals while enjoying the sunshine.”
Each golf course is unique. Glen Oaks, Lyon Oaks, Springfield Oaks and White Lake Oaks golf courses are 18-hole courses that feature scenic views and challenging play. All four offer clubhouses with pro shops and food and beverage service while Lyon Oaks also has a driving range. Red Oaks Golf Course is home to a 9-hole executive course perfect for a quick game in a relaxing, urban setting.
White Lake Oaks Golf Course had Hole #13 modified in the off season as part of a drainage improvement project. The change involved removing culverts and the pond and creating a creek with a bridge on the hole. This golf course also features popular electric golf bikes. These individual rentals are an alternative to a larger golf cart, providing the rider with the ability to go directly to their ball. Golf bags are mounted in the center of the bike, which has wide wheels for a balanced and controlled ride. White Lake Oaks is one of the first golf courses in the area to have electric bikes available.
Other features include a state-of-the-art practice facility at Lyon Oaks and warm-up hitting nets at Glen Oaks and Red Oaks. White Lake Oaks has a putting green and Springfield Oaks has a chipping green. All have single rider Americans with Disabilities (ADA) golf carts available for golfers with physical disabilities or limited mobility. Some carts feature a swivel seat that moves to a standing position and also pivots left and right for maximum range of motion during play.
“Golf is an activity individuals of all ages and abilities can enjoy,” he said. “It provides opportunities for socializing and physical exercise and is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon.”
All five golf courses have league play available. Red Oaks Golf Course will also host a modified golf league beginning in mid-August, where participants will enjoy two hours playing at their own pace. In June, a Try 9 Adaptive Golf Experience offers a two-hour opportunity for individuals with disabilities to learn golf or sharpen their golf skills by working through the nine-hole golf course in an inclusive environment. For more information on these opportunities, call 248-221-8040 or email OCPrecreation@oakgov.com.
Junior rates will continue this year at the golf courses. Individuals ages 17 and younger can play 9 holes for $10 and 18 holes for $15 Monday-Friday and weekend afternoons. Specific hours are posted at each golf course. Juniors ride free with a paid adult during those times.
“Keeping rates affordable make it easier for younger golfers to learn the fundamentals of golf and practice their skills on a regular basis,” Hughes said. “It’s great to see so many junior golfers developing a love for the game at our golf courses.”
Discounted rates are also available for seniors ages 62+, individuals with disabilities, veterans and active military personnel. Twilight golf offers special rates during the evening hours.
