According to homicide detectives, a 51-year-old man shot his mother before turning the gun on himself.

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Police Department is investigating a murder-suicide on Monday night that left two people dead in the neighborhood of Burlingame, near South Park.

Police responded to a report of gunshots at the 2400 block of San Marcos Avenue at 7:39 p.m. Officials said that a woman in her 80s was dead and a 51-year-old man was transported to a local hospital, where he also died.

According to homicide detectives, the man shot his mother before turning the gun on himself.

It is unknown what led up to the shooting, but officials say there is no danger to the neighborhood.
