Nick Pivetta will be on the hill for the San Diego Padres when they open up their season on Thursday.

The team announced on Monday that the 33-year-old righty from Victoria, BC will be the Opening Day starter against the Detroit Tigers.

Pivetta, 33, heads into his second season with the Padres. In 31 starts a season ago, Pivetta was 13-5 with a 2.87 earned run average and 0.985 WHIP over a career-high 181.2 innings of work. He struck out 190 batters and walked 50.

Originally taken in the fourth round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by the Washington Nationals, Pivetta is set to embark on his 10th big league campaign. He previously suited up for the Boston Red Sox and the San Diego Padres. For his career, Pivetta is 69-76 in 1,211.0 IP over 254 appearances, including 209 starts, with a 4.47 ERA and 1.267 WHIP. He has 1,329 career strikeouts.

Pivetta is playing in the second season of a four-year, $55 million deal. The contract has an opt-out following the 2026 season.
