NASA says recovery planning for the Artemis II mission is underway in San Diego.

Rescue test director Daniel Florez says the U.S. Navy, Naval Base North Island, medical teams from Camp Pendleton will all be ready when the capsule splashes down off the coast of San Diego.

Navy divers out of Coronado will be the first to reach the astronauts in the water.  Exercise operations and procedures are currently being run to train personal on the sequence of events.

The Artemis II mission is set for an April 1st launch with four astronauts expected to spend about 10-days orbiting the moon before returning to Earth, with a planned splashdown about 60 miles off the coast of San Diego.

The rescue team will have two-hours to locate the capsule, retrieve the crew and bring them safely back to the ship via helicopter.
