Spring has officially arrived, and with it comes one of San Diego’s most anticipated seasonal experiences — the Butterfly Jungle at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park.
ESCONDIDO, Calif. — Each year, a section of the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, known as the Hidden Jungle, transforms into a tropical haven filled with hundreds of butterflies fluttering freely among visitors. Bright blooms, chirping birds, and the soft rustle of wings make it clear that spring is in full swing. We’re talking about the renowned Butterfly Jungle making its return.
The annual event encourages guests to slow down and appreciate the beauty of the small but vital creatures. Visitors can get an up-close look at the butterflies’ intricate wing patterns, designed both for display and disguise. Some may even find a butterfly landing gently on their hand or shoulder during the experience.
While hundreds of butterflies fly freely around you, you’ll notice the variety of colors and sizes, while Mother Nature invites you to slow down. Many of the species of butterflies on display come from Central and South America, but some are local to Southern California.
The 20-minute immersive encounter requires a separate ticket priced at $18 per person. The Butterfly Jungle will be open daily through April 12 at the Safari Park in Escondido. For those looking to celebrate spring in a colorful, serene setting, Butterfly Jungle offers the perfect escape into nature’s artistry.
