(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento International Airport announced Monday that it will not be using Immigration and Customs Enforcement to help the Transportation Security Administration.

The details come as President Donald Trump said he would deploy Federal ICE agents to airports across the country in an effort to ease travel chaos as the Department of Homeland Security shutdown has reached its 38th day.

“We are aware of the latest news reports that ICE agents may be assigned to provide TSA functions at certain airports. As of Monday morning, there are currently no plans to use ICE to support TSA at SMF. Staffing callouts have remained minimal, and security wait times are staying consistent with what they were prior to the shutdown,” SMF officials said in a social media post.

SMF said it will continue to work with TSA and airline partners to ensure airport safety and efficiency.

“We value the dedication of TSA and all frontline staff working through a busy spring season without pay,” SMF said. “We remain deeply committed to providing a welcoming experience to all travelers.”

While the announcement raised concerns, SMF travelers told FOX40 that their experience has not been complicated.

“We thought it was going to be bad here at Sacramento Airport, but it was super breeze. TSA was amazing,” a traveler arriving from Palm Springs said.

However, the president’s move is drawing even more attention after a Sacramento woman was detained by ICE agents at San Francisco International Airport, Rep. Doris Matsui said.

While some locals called the announcement a “good political move,” others protested outside the terminals on Monday.
