ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Oakland (5-17, 3-3 HL) edged past Michigan (11-12, 1-5 B1G) with a 7-6 back-and-forth victory on Tuesday evening at Ray Fisher Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies secured the win with a three-run ninth inning, overcoming Michigan’s three-run eighth that had tied the game. The duel was highlighted by Oakland’s persistent offense, which collected nine hits and drew nine walks, ultimately capitalizing on a key late-inning surge to seal the win.

“I couldn’t be more proud or happy of our guys. We’ve had a lot of adversity already this season if you look at our box score,” said head coach Brian Nelson. “This is special, [Michigan head coach] Tracy Smith, Michigan and what they do here is unbelievable class. We want to be as good as them, they are the standard that we are trying to be at and prove and this was an awesome game for it.”

Fifth-year Kyle Revere led the offense with four hits and drove in two runs, including the only extra-base hit of the afternoon for Oakland with a double. Redshirt-junior Sam Griffith contributed with two RBIs, providing the tying and go-ahead runs. Junior Ben Clark added two hits and scored a run as redshirt-junior George Hansen pitched 3 scoreless innings on the mound, earning three strikeouts while allowing just two hits.

In the second inning, Oakland took a 3-0 lead. Grad senior Carter Hain walked and advanced to third base after redshirt-senior Jack Lux and sophomore Andrew Landis also drew walks. Redshirt-sophomore Boston Halloran then walked, driving in Hain. Revere hit a two-RBI single, scoring Lux and Landis.

After plating three of their own in the fourth frame, Oakland added another run in the fifth inning, extending its lead to 4-3. Clark walked and advanced to third after a single by Revere and a hit-by-pitch to sophomore Aidan Schuck. Redshirt-sophomore Tony Konopiots then walked, bringing Clark home.

Michigan made a comeback in the eighth inning, scoring three runs to take a 6-4 lead from a bunt single and a two-RBI double .

Oakland responded decisively in the ninth inning. Redshirt-freshman Max Orozco, pinch running, scored on a groundout by redshirt-sophomore Lucas Day. Freshman Cameron Spezia, another pinch runner, scored along with junior Drew DelCollo on a two-RBI single by Griffith.

Hansen delivered a solid start for the Golden Grizzlies, pitching three runless innings with three strikeouts. Grad senior Ethan Glassman made a return to the mound as he followed with surrendering only a hit. Redshirt-junior Ryan Donley secured the save, retiring the only batter he faced in the ninth inning. Redshirt-junior Stephen Ruhle garnered the win, contributing 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out one and allowing two walks.

The Golden Grizzlies are back to conference action as they travel to Dayton to face Wright State in a three-game series starting Friday, March 27 at 3 p.m. ET.
