Radko Gudas is in trouble yet again. First it was for destroying Auston Matthews’ MCL, and now upon return from suspension his lack of effort has cost him yet again.
Gudas at it again as Anaheim defenceman faces another punishment upon return from suspension
However things aren’t exactly great over in Anaheim now that Gudas is back in the fold either as the Ducks captain got himself in some hot water again. According to sources, Gudas was given a penalty lap at the end of practice for being late to the huddle:
Radko Gudas in trouble again. Had to skate penalty lap for being last one in to coach Joel Quenneville’s huddle at Anaheim Ducks morning skate. Gudas returns from 5-game suspension tonight vs Canucks.
While it won’t cost him a spot in the lineup, Anaheim did give up a couple of crucial points in a tight Pacific Division race, and as the captain of the team, Gudas had to show more effort regardless of if the team went 3-1-1 in his absence.
Why Anaheim has a Radko Gudas problem
Now he can’t even get to his own team huddle on time. At what point do you have to look in the mirror and realize you’re the problem?
Though he didn’t lose a substantial amount of money due to the nature of the suspension, it’s still enough to give Anaheim a bit of pause. As Gudas is a free agent at the end of the year, the team may decide that this discipline will cost them more than it will help them and move on.
Already with several suspensions under his belt, 35 years old, and a player whose playing style has certainly got its benefits but when all you’re really good for is bruising but reckless hits; that’s not exactly a selling point.
Plus, if he thinks any team will pay him near the $4-million that he currently makes he’s out of his mind, and until he can get his discipline in check it might be awhile before a team comes calling.
So for Radko Gudas, the more things change, the more they stay the same. He feels like he can do whatever he wants without regard. The NHL and now Joel Quenneville don’t appreciate it, and if Anaheim’s front office feels the same?
Three strikes, Radko. You’re out.
