SACRAMENTO — Sophomore Madison Evers-Lyles tied the program single-game record for home runs (3), RBIs (7) and hits (4) to lead Sacramento State to an 11-4 win over UC Davis on Tuesday afternoon at Shea Stadium.

Evers-Lyles finished the game 4-for-4 (she added a single), homered off three different Aggie pitchers, and had at least one RBI in all four at-bats. She also wasn’t far off the home run cycle as she had a three-run homer (first inning), a two-run blast (second inning), and a solo shot (sixth inning). She also had an RBI-single in the fourth inning.

Evers-Lyles becomes just the second player in program history to club three homers in a game, joining Alondra Mejia who accomplished the feat in 2021 at Montana. In addition, she became just the third Hornet with seven RBIs, and first since Carley Morfey in 2022. The four hits tied a record that has been set on 40 occasions.

Sacramento State (21-11) scored in every inning, including four in the first inning, three in the second, and one each in the third through sixth innings. The Hornets, once again, had little trouble against UC Davis. In the two meetings this season – both won by Sacramento State – the Hornets have outscored the Aggies, 19-5.

The Aggies scored in each of the first three innings, but it was not nearly enough for a high powered Sacramento State offense that put up season highs in runs (11), hits (15), RBIs (10) and home runs (4). The Hornets had seven extra base hits, trailing only the eight they posted at UC Davis on Opening Day.

Five Sacramento State players had multiple hits, including Evers-Lyles (4), Lafulafu Malepeai (2), Shannon Garcia (2), Malissa George (2) and Karissa Avilla (2). Malepeai clubbed her team-best 11th home run of the season in the first inning, four batters before Evers-Lyles went yard. Both of George’s hits were doubles, and Garcia has multiple hits in three straight games and is 7-for-9 over that stretch. Both Saskia Raab and Garcia scored a pair of runs.

Eight of the Hornets’ nine starters collected hits, and the team combined to strike out just four times.

Keeli Smith (3-1) was dominant in relief, allowing just two hits and one unearned run in five innings of work. Freshman Ella Ferguson worked the first two innings.

Today was the Hornets’ final non-league tuneup. Big Sky Conference play begins later this week at Northern Colorado when the Hornets and Bears play a doubleheader on Friday (1 p.m. PT), followed by a Saturday single game (11 a.m. PT). Sacramento State does not play at home again until April 10.
