SACRAMENTO — Sacramento State won the doubles point, and received straight set singles victories from Martin Duris, Nick Bowles and Freddie Healey on the way to a 4-0 win over UC Riverside on Tuesday afternoon on campus.
With the victory, the Hornets improved to 8-8 overall, and 5-3 at home. Today begins a stretch that will see Sacramento State play three non-conference home matches over a five-day stretch, including a matchup tomorrow afternoon vs. UC San Diego at noon.
Sacramento State got doubles wins from Freddie Healey/Gashi (6-2) and Duris/Bowles (6-3) to win the point.
That was followed by quick victories from Duris at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), Bowles at No. 2 (6-1, 6-3) and Healey at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2). Davis Dai was also up in his match at No. 5 (6-4, 3-1) when the match was stopped because Sacramento State had the necessary four points for victory.
After Wednesday’s match, the Hornets will host Jessup on Saturday at noon. Saturday will be the non-league finale as Sacramento State closes the regular season with four straight Big Sky Conference meetings.
