MERCED, Calif. (KFSN) — A new airline is taking over service at the Merced Regional Airport.

Contour Airlines will offer flights to Las Vegas and Los Angeles (LAX) starting on July 1.

From there, Contour has partnerships with Alaska, American and United to offer connecting flights to destinations around the world.

Contour operates using jet aircraft able to hold 30 passengers.

“This is a major milestone for Merced and the future of our airport,” said Mayor Matthew Serratto in a statement.

The city says these flights will help provide an economic boost and more travel opportunities for the Merced community.

Air service in Merced is supported, in part, by federal Essential Air Service funding.

Tickets go on sale starting April 14.

The current air service provider in Merced, Advanced Air, will continue to operate until June 30.
