Sacramento police arrested a 44-year-old man suspected in a shooting that left another man dead March 15 in Natomas, department officials announced Wednesday.

Laron Fort, 44, was booked by officers into Sacramento County Main Jail early Wednesday on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in the early morning shooting, according to jail records.

A Sacramento police tactical team along with career criminal apprehension and violent crime reduction officers took Fort into custody.

Officers about 2 a.m. March 15 were called to the 1500 block of Waterwheel Drive to find a man who had been shot. The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Homicide detectives took on the case culminating in Fort’s arrest late Tuesday.

Fort is being held without bail in Sacramento County custody. He is scheduled to appear Thursday in Sacramento Superior Court.
