A woman was assaulted and injured after two people allegedly broke into her home in Piedmont while she was sleeping, police said.

The robbery occurred just before 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the 400 block of Scenic Avenue, the Piedmont Police Department said in a news release. Two men allegedly entered the woman’s bedroom demanding cash and then assaulted her when she was “unable to comply,” police said.

After the assault, the two men allegedly ransacked the house but were interrupted by another resident who discovered them. The other resident, who returned home to find the doors open, called 911, but the men left before police arrived.

Investigators used footage from the city’s Flock Safety cameras and located the vehicle of one suspect. The car was towed in Oakland about an hour after the robbery.

Police are still investigating the robbery, and anyone with information is urged to call the department at 510-420-3000. Residents are also being urged to lock doors and windows, use exterior lighting and report suspicious activity to authorities.

The Piedmont Police Department did not respond to SFGATE’s request for additional information before the time of publication.

According to the department’s end of the year report in 2025, compared with the five-year average across 2019-2024, robberies and assaults are down by 16.7% and 23.5%, respectively, but burglaries saw a 44.8% increase.
