OBITUARY

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Darlene Ann (Schwind) Vaughn, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, who left this world on Feb. 18, 2026 at her home in Rancho Bernardo, CA at the age of 87. She was born on June 5, 1938, in Hurdland, MO, a daughter of the late Leta Mae and Eugene Schwind.

She is survived by her twin daughters, Colette D. Glenn and her fiancé Michael Garner of Poway, CA, and Colleen D. Choquette and her husband Duane of Rancho Bernardo, CA; her cherished grandchildren, Connor William Glenn of Escondido, CA, and Kaitlyn Rose-Ann Choquette of Rancho Bernardo, CA; her sister Elane Muegge and her husband Floyd of Quincy, IL; her brother Bill Schwind and his wife Ellen of Dothan, AL; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leta Mae and Eugene Schwind, and former husband and friend, David “Bud” Vaughn.

Darlene, in her early career, worked as a bookkeeper and while raising her children was a part-time floral designer. She was an active member of the “Mothers of Twins Club” and volunteered at many school functions and was on the PTA. Later she worked as a church secretary for The Community Church of Poway and played the piano and organ for numerous weddings there.

She lived a life filled with compassion, grace, humor and a quiet strength. She made everyone feel loved. She was an avid seamstress, baker and loved to read and do word search puzzles. Her greatest joy was her family. A couple of her favorite pastimes were going to Disneyland and Palm Springs. She never tired of visiting Disneyland, where she delighted in the magic as much as any child.

Later in life she found happiness in her Oaks North Travel Club, Gathering Hearts Group through the Church at Rancho Bernardo (where she was a member) and her numerous friends in the Oaks North Community in Rancho Bernardo. She was very social and active up until her death. She will be missed dearly.

A celebration of her life will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 1:00pm at The Church at Rancho Bernardo: 11740 Bernardo Plaza Ct, San Diego, CA 92128.
