Barringer Newcomb

OBITUARY

Barringer Newcomb passed away on March 5, 2026, in Carmel, California, at the age of 83.

Born on May 2, 1942, in Wisconsin, Barringer was raised in Tucson, Arizona, and La Jolla, California. He spent most of his life in Del Mar, California, where he raised his family. During those years, he and his wife, Victoria, owned an antiques and fine gift store, traveling to China and Europe to source distinctive pieces. In semi-retirement, he and his wife moved to Victoria, British Columbia, where they enjoyed several years sailing the San Juan Islands, meeting many new friends, and volunteering with the Maritime Museum and the Royal Victoria Yacht Club. Four years ago, they moved to Carmel, California.

Barringer attended the University of Arizona, where he earned his undergraduate degree, and later received a master’s degree from Thunderbird School of Global Management.

He served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman. For much of his professional life, Barringer worked as a yacht broker and was deeply involved in the sailing community. A lifetime member of the San Diego Yacht Club, he also worked with Tall Ships and the America’s Cup.

In addition to sailing, Barringer was an avid reader, enjoyed playing tennis and loved to travel. He especially cherished time spent with his family and grandchildren, teaching them to sail and sharing with them his lifelong love of the ocean. He spent many happy days traveling the California coast with his wife and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Victoria; his four children, Robert (Alison), Monnie (Carl), Jill (Tom) and Katherine; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He spent his final days under the loving care of Miriam Fickewirth and the dedicated staff at Agape Residential Home in Carmel.

A private ceremony to scatter his ashes at sea will be held by family.

The sea was a lifelong passion that brought him great joy and connection throughout his life.
