Billie Joe Armstrong plans to play a show in the Bay Area — and he only gave fans a few hours’ notice.
The Green Day frontman’s musical side project, the Coverups, shared a promotional poster for its concert at Cornerstone Berkeley on Instagram around 3 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, just four hours before the band is scheduled to hit the stage.
Admission to the show costs $25, according to the poster.
The Coverups, Armstrong’s covers-only group, is also scheduled to perform at Oakland’s Fox Theater on May 2 at as part of Notes & Words, an annual benefit concert for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals.
Armstrong and his Green Day bandmate Mike Dirnt started the Coverups in 2018, playing popup shows at intimate venues around California.
Dirnt has not played with the Coverups since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Other Green Day musicians involved with the side project include the group’s touring guitarist Jason White, its audio engineer Chris Dugan on drums, and tour manager Bill Schneider playing bass.
The Coverups have also performed a handful of shows in London, some of which featured Hole frontwoman and San Francisco native Courtney Love.
Wednesday’s concert will mark Armstrong’s first concert in the Bay Area since Green Day performed during the televised Super Bowl LX pregame show on Feb. 8.
