Organizers say more than 60 wineries from across the state are expected to participate, pouring wines made from less commonly cultivated grape varieties.

A wine tasting event scheduled this weekend in Los Angeles will focus on lesser-known grape varieties grown in California, offering an alternative to more widely produced wines such as cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay.

The Festival of Undiscovered Grapes is set to take place Saturday at Mica Studios from noon to 5 p.m.

Organizers say more than 60 wineries from across the state are expected to participate, pouring wines made from less commonly cultivated grape varieties. While California grows more than 100 types of wine grapes, industry data shows that a small group of varietals dominates the majority of vineyard plantings.

The event will feature wines made from grapes such as semillon, cinsault, teroldego, nebbiolo and marsanne, among others. Attendees will be able to sample wines and speak with producers about their cultivation and production.

Tickets range from $75 to $125, according to event information.
