A woman died after she was bitten by a rattlesnake while hiking at a park in Southern California, marking the second rattlesnake-related death in the state this month, according to reports.

PEOPLE reported that the Ventura County Medical Examiner identified her as 46-year-old Gabriela Bautista, also noting that her death was caused by rattlesnake venom toxicity.

KNBC said Bautista was bitten at Wildwood Regional Park in Ventura County on March 14, just before noon.

Emergency crews responded to the scene and airlifted her to a hospital for treatment, the media outlet noted.

Despite treatment, she died on March 19, KNBC reported.

According to the outlet, officials said warmer-than-usual temperatures have potentially contributed to increased rattlesnake activity in the area. Experts said heat can bring snakes out earlier in the season, raising the likelihood of encounters with hikers.

Additional rattlesnake encounters have been reported in the region around the same time, prompting officials to urge caution for people visiting parks and trails.
