If you were a Great Horned Owl, and you had “Lay Eggs!!” somewhere on your 2026 Vision Board, you absolutely would want to make a home for your future baby owlets somewhere like the Hale House at Heritage Square Museum.
For constructing a nest near the top of a landmark home, a real Victorian manse that looks as if it was created to grace the cover of a cozy mystery novel, would feel beautifully on-brand for an owl, a nocturnal bird that has long been synonymous with cozy mysteries, supernatural stories, and the realm beyond.
Here’s some sweet and spooky news for those who love perfect pairings: Baby Great Horned Owls are now nesting near the upper gable of the Hale House, and the team at the historical park, a picturesque place featuring several saved-from-the-wrecking-ball homes, has been sharing photos and updates on social media.
These not-so-little-ones have been captivating onlookers, people who are admiring the tender tableau from a respectful distance below, since nesting began in the later part of January.
One day soon, these babies will spread their precious wings and depart, and the Hale House will return to starring in films, commercials, and atmospheric events like the Spooky Swap Meet, which returns April 24-26, and Street Food Cinema’s Boo-ze, Bites, and Frights: Half-O-Ween, which is set for May 1 and 2.
But before then, something else enchanting will shimmer inside the property’s stunning church: “Phasmagorica,” the “immersive, 11-guest séance installation,” is making a return engagement at Heritage Square from April 10 through 12.
Tickets are available for purchase at the “Phasmagorica” site.
Will the adorable owlets have fledged by the time this evening affair materializes? Time will tell, but, for now, we can admire pictures shared on social media and marvel that owls found their wonderful way to one of the most haunting houses in Los Angeles.
