SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Hundreds of arrests, dozens of guns seized, and thousands of grams of drugs taken off the streets — that’s the impact of a major crackdown in the Sacramento region.
The Office of Governor Gavin Newsom said CHP crime suppression teams made 241 arrests in the region over the past year, including 167 felony cases. Officers also recovered 39 stolen vehicles, seized 27 illegal firearms, and confiscated more than 26,000 grams of drugs, including meth, cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl.
This includes a March 20 traffic stop that led to nearly nine pounds of cocaine being seized in East Sacramento and three arrests on Jan. 2 in Stockton for illegal firearm possession.
Officials said the effort is part of a broader statewide strategy targeting repeat offenders and crime hotspots through partnerships with local law enforcement.
“This is about results. We’re going after repeat offenders, taking illegal guns off the streets, and seizing deadly drugs before they can do harm. These teams are making communities safer in real, tangible ways, and we’re doubling down on what’s working,” Governor Gavin Newsom said in a news release.
Across California, that strategy has led to more than 12,000 arrests, over 6,000 stolen vehicles recovered, and hundreds of illegal guns seized in just two years. Authorities also said they’ve taken in more than 2,500 pounds of drugs statewide — including enough fentanyl for millions of potentially deadly doses.
“The California Highway Patrol is committed to a proactive, intelligence-led approach to public safety,” said CHP Commissioner Sean Duryee. “Through our crime suppression teams deployed across the state, and in strong partnership with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners, we are identifying, disrupting, and deterring criminal activity. This unified and strategic response is delivering meaningful results and enhancing the safety of the communities we serve.”
