STANFORD, Calif. — Sophomore Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) carded a collegiate-low 6-under-par 64 to take a one-shot lead for the San Diego State men’s golf team Thursday at The Goodwin in Stanford, California. Takis, the No. 4-ranked player in the latest computer ratings, leads a group of four who are at -5 on the par-70, 6,742-yard Stanford Golf Course.

Takis’ collegiate-best round features two eagles on the back-nine, including the par-4, 430-yard 10th hole and the par-5, 505-yard 16th hole. He also had three birdies, while his lone bogey on the par-3, 196-yard 17th hole.

As a team, SDSU, which is 33rd in the latest computer rankings, is tied with No. 39 Washington and Oregon for 10th in the 30-team field at even-par 280. Host and No. 23 Stanford leads at -11, while No. 31 Long Beach State (-10) and No. 21 New Mexico (-9) and second and third, respectively.

Junior Nathan Sampson (Temecula, Calif.) is tied for 42nd at even-par, while freshman Beau Sahr (Eagle, Idaho) is a shot back at +1. Senior Chanachon Chokprajakchat (Bangkok, Thailand) is tied for 122nd at +5 and sophomore Kai Hirayama (Arcadia, Calif.) is tied for 133rd at +6.

San Diego State tees off with Brigham Young, Long Beach State and UCLA for Friday’s second round at 8:05 a.m. PT.
