A 21-year-old man is expected to survive after he was slashed with a machete more than eight times during an argument at a downtown San Diego trolley stop Wednesday night, San Diego police said.

Police received a report of the attack on C Street near Sixth Avenue around 6:40 p.m., said police Officer Anthony Carrasco.

When officers arrived, they learned two 21-year-old men had gotten into a confrontation over a court case they’re both involved in.

During the argument, one of the men allegedly pulled a machete out and began slashing the victim, yelling at one point: “I’m going to kill you,” Carrasco said.

The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening lacerations, Carrasco said.

The other man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
