Good morning! Here’s what you need to know today.
Your Weather Planner
We can expect another round of morning low clouds and patchy fog along the coast, basins and partially in the valleys Friday morning.
Some of the cloud cover will hang around the coast in the afternoon, limiting quick warmth. Meanwhile, inland temperatures will run 15 to 20 degrees above average.
We will get a big pattern shift early next week, with much cooler temperatures and a chance of light rain.

1. LA Metro approves K Line extension route
Metro’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a route for the northern extension of the K Line light rail project Thursday, advancing the 9.7-mile San Vicente-Fairfax alignment and pledging to address concerns from Mid-City residents without delaying the project.
Metro officials described the local preferred alignment as a game-changer that will move forward a project that aims to connect communities, reduce commute times and improve access to employment, housing and cultural institutions.
The K Line already connects the South Bay to Inglewood and LAX, with the project seeking to extend the rail from Expo/Crenshaw through Crenshaw, Mid-City and the Fairfax District to West Hollywood, Hollywood and a final stop at the Hollywood Bowl. A total of 10 stations would be built under this proposal, reaching destinations such as Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Pacific Design Center and the Grove.
This alignment would link to four other major rail lines — including the under-construction D (Purple) Line — and six of the region’s busiest bus lanes, according to Metro.
2. FAA investigating near-collision at John Wayne Airport
Federal Aviation Administration officials Thursday were investigating a close call between a jet and a military helicopter at John Wayne Airport this week.
United Airlines Flight 589 was inbound to the airport in Santa Ana when a Sikorsky Black Hawk helicopter crossed its path about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, according to FAA spokesman Ian Gregor.
FAA officials are investigating, “including whether a new measure to suspend the use of visual separation between airplanes and helicopters was applied,” Gregor said.
United issued a statement saying the flight crew “saw the helicopter, and also received a traffic alert, which they responded to by leveling the aircraft.”
The plane, with 168 people aboard, then landed safely.
3. The Oscars are moving to the Peacock Theater in 2029, their first year on YouTube
The Oscars are leaving Hollywood. In 2029, the ceremony will move from its longtime home at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to downtown Los Angeles and the Peacock Theater 9 miles away.
That’s the same year the telecast shifts from ABC to YouTube. It’s a surprising move given that the Dolby was developed by the Academy of Motion Pictures of Arts and Sciences itself expressly as a home for the Oscars, which have been held there since 2002.
The Academy announced Thursday that it has reached a 10-year agreement with AEG, which operates the L.A. Live complex where the Peacock Theater sits.

Gig workers across California call for more regulations around robotaxis
Uber and Lyft drivers from the California Gig Workers Union rallied Wednesday morning around newly proposed legislation introduced by Democratic state Sen. Dave Cortese.
SB 1246 would require supervision of autonomous vehicles to be handled by staff who are based in the U.S. and hold valid California driver’s licenses. In the event of an accident or breakdown, the legislation would also require a person to respond to the scene within 10 minutes.
Drivers say they’re concerned for their livelihood and argue that replacing 800,000 gig workers with autonomous vehicles would have a huge impact on the state’s economy.
