Woman rescued from SF cliff had been swept away while swimming: SFFD

SAN FRANCISCO — Firefighters now say the woman who was rescued from a cliff near San Francisco’s Ocean Beach on Wednesday has been swimming before she got stuck.

The current pulled her away, and she decided to climb up onto the rocks, officials said.

San Francisco fire crews swiftly rescued a woman who was found clinging to the side of a cliff near San Francisco’s Cliff House on Wednesday.

The San Francisco Fire Department had previously said that the woman had gone over the cliff and gotten stuck.

“She was taken by the current further away from her entry point,” Lt. Mariano Elias said. “When she realized she was getting pulled away from where she came in. She decided to go to the rocks and try to climb up the rocks themselves.”

A firefighter rappelled down the cliff to reach her, and after securing her, crews pulled her up to the top.

She apparently was visiting from another country and was unaware of how dangerous the surf can be.
