Officials at San Diego Gas & Electric are trying to find out what caused about 103,000 customers to lose power for about an hour on Thursday night.

The outage spanned sections of North County, including Escondido, Encinitas and Carlsbad, as well as portions of SDG&E’s service territory in Orange County.

The electricity blackout began at 7:41 p.m., according to the the utility’s outage web page. By 8:50 p.m., power was restored.

The affected areas included La Costa, Cardiff, Olivenhain, Rancho Santa Fe and San Elijo Lagoon, as well as inland communities of Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Peñasquitos, Lake Hodges and San Pasqual.

“We understand how disruptive outages can be and are working to investigate the cause,” SDG&E spokesperson Anthony Wagner said in an email. “The safety of our customers, employees and communities remains our top priority.”
