BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who died after being struck by a vehicle on Pacheco Road as 18-year-old Nathaniel Antwan Jerome Carter.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on March 21, 2026, officers went to the 1100 block of Pacheco Road, at around 9:31 p.m., for a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
When they arrived, they found a man lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The pedestrian was identified as Carter.
The driver of the involved car remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Police said speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash.
A GoFundMe was created for Carter. It said, “He was in the crosswalk on his way to get milk for his nephew—an act that reflects the kind of loving and selfless person he was every single day.”
