Sheriff’s detectives arrested a 75-year-old man accused sexually abusing a girl in Sacramento County.
Larry Leroy Candies was arrested on suspicion of eight counts of committing lewd and lascivious acts with a child younger than 14 years old, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday afternoon in a news release.
Candies appeared for his arraignment hearing Friday afternoon in Sacramento Superior Court. He remains in custody at the Sacramento County Jail with his bail amount set at $1 million.
Sheriff’s officials said the child sexual abuse investigation began in September , when a mother called the Sheriff’s Office to report her then 13-year-old daughter had been sexually abused by a relative, Candies.
The girl was later interviewed by a forensic interview specialist and sheriff’s child abuse detectives at the Family Justice Center in Modesto. Sheriff’s officials said the girl told investigators that Candies had been molesting her since she was about 11 years old.
The investigators later learned of Child Protective Services and Stockton Police Department reports that revealed previous sexual abuse allegations against Candies.
Sheriff’s officials said detectives questioned two relatives of Candies. Sheriff’s officials said one of the relatives described being sexually abused by Candies in the 1980s between the ages of 8 and 13 years old.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Candies, who was booked at the jail on Wednesday. Sheriff’s officials said detectives believe there are additional victims who have not reported their abuse.
Investigators asked anyone with information about possible sexual victims related to this case to call the sheriff’s Child Abuse Bureau at 916-875-5191 or send an email to childabuse@sacsheriff.com.
