An A24 production appears to be filming at Amoeba Music, the Haight Street record store famous for its sprawling selection, red-and-yellow bags, and “What’s in My Bag?” YouTube videos.
On Friday afternoon, a trailer and a van were parked on the street outside the store. A few security guards sat on chairs out front, and crew members paced up and down the sidewalk, which was lined with filming gear: a generator, thick cables, carts full of stands for equipment. Signs on the store’s glass doors announced its closure for the day.
According to filming notices posted nearby, a production company called Ring Finger LLC is shooting interiors and exteriors at the store. Publicly available business records list Ring Finger’s principal address as the 10th floor of 1245 Broadway in New York, which is the address of A24, the film production and distribution company behind “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” “Moonlight” and “Lady Bird.” The studio recently purchased another film that takes place in San Francisco, the Sundance standout “The Invite.”

SFGATE reached out to Amoeba and A24 for comment but did not receive a response before the time of publication.
A crew member standing outside Amoeba Music, who was granted anonymity in compliance with Hearst’s ethics policy, told this reporter that the film was called “Deep Cuts.” That’s the title of an A24 film in production, directed by Sean Durkin (“The Iron Claw.”)
“Deep Cuts” follows a romance between two young music lovers in the 2000s. The film is an adaptation of a novel of the same name by Holly Brickley. According to Deadline, the film’s cast includes Abubakr Ali, Quintessa Swindell, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Cailee Spaeny, Drew Starkey, Ariela Barer and Gaby Hoffmann.
Amoeba Music is one of several San Francisco locations for the film. Filming notices reviewed by SFGATE show that Ring Finger LLC also shot in North Beach and Telegraph Hill. On Thursday, the crew shot exteriors at the intersection of Union and Battery streets, and exteriors and interiors at the intersection of Montgomery and Vallejo streets.

On Friday and early Saturday morning, the film will also shoot exteriors and interiors near Great American Music Hall on O’Farrell Street, according to another filming notice.
The Amoeba Music on Haight Street, which opened in 1997, is the second of the chain’s three stores. The first Amoeba opened in Berkeley in 1990; a third opened in Hollywood in 2001.
The film shoot is the Haight Street store’s second high-profile event this month. Last week, filmmaker and Mosswood Meltdown host John Waters stopped by the store for an episode of “What’s in My Bag?”
