FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) – The UNLV softball team dropped 9-3 against Fresno State in game one of the three-game Mountain West series at Margie Wright Diamond on Friday evening.
 
Bri Williams led the Rebels (16-17, 3-4) at the plate going 2-for-4 on the night and scored a run. Taryn Calderon was 1-for-2 against the Bulldogs (14-13, 3-4) which included a walk and a run scored. Charelle Aki and Mantha Hatzenbeller both were 1-for-3 with an RBI on the night.
 
HOW IT WENT DOWN: In the bottom of the first inning, Fresno State took a 2-0 lead after two singles to the outfield. The Bulldogs tallied three more runs in the bottom of the second inning on three hits and made it 5-0. In the top of the third inning, Keyannah Chavez hit an RBI single to center to get the Rebels on the board, 5-1. Charelle Aki followed with an RBI single of her own to cut the deficit to three, 5-2. In the bottom half of the fourth, the Bulldogs added two runs to their lead on three hits and made it 7-2. Fresno State then added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run homer, 9-2. In the top of the sixth inning with two outs, Taryn Calderon roped a single back up the middle. Mantha Hatzenbeller then smacked a double down the left field line which allowed Calderon to score, 9-3. The Rebels tried to get a rally going in the top of the seventh inning, but stranded a runner and was retired on a strikeout and popped up for the final two outs.
 
OTHER NOTES:


Natalie Turner roped her fifth double of the season and is now on a four-game hitting streak.
Keyannah Chavez had an RBI single on the night extending her hitting streak to four games.
Lyla Gonzalez drew a walk and scored a run against the Bulldogs.
Sophie Stockam threw a career-high 2.0 innings and struck out two Fresno State batters on the night.
Bri WIlliams has now reached base in 21 straight games.
Charelle Aki is on an eight-game reached base streak.
