A 28-year-old man died after being stabbed late Friday night in Barrio Logan, San Diego police said.

Officers were dispatched around 11:13 p.m. to the south alley of Logan Avenue near 16th Street after receiving multiple reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found the man suffering from stab wounds and saw him collapse to the ground, police said. A bystander, officers and medics provided medical aid before the man was transported to a hospital, where he later died.

Police said the man, who was described as being of Somali descent, will not be identified until his family has been notified.

Homicide detectives will be in the area throughout the day Saturday to collect evidence and look for witnesses. Investigators believe the victim was confronted by a group of three Hispanic men and a Hispanic woman and that some members of the group attacked him.

Officers detained a male and a female shortly after the stabbing, but they have since been released.

Police urged with information to call the police department’s Homicide Unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
