SACRAMENTO, Calif. —

A 75-year-old man from Sacramento has been arrested for molesting children in his family, with investigators suspecting there may be more victims.

Larry Candies, who had gone unnoticed for years, was reported in September 2025 by a mother who said her 13-year-old daughter was one of the victims.

“It turns out there was also unreported molestation that occurred all the way back in the 80s,” said Sgt. Edward Igoe from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

In discussions with the victim, investigators learned that the abuse had been happening since she was 11 years old, continuing for at least two years.

“A lot of these monsters will victimize family members, relatives, but then, God forbid that relative has a friend stay the night. That’s where these additional victims come into play,” Igoe said.

California’s elder parole law, which applies to inmates 50 and older, is facing criticism for allowing some violent offenders serving life sentences to be released earlier. Candies is facing eight felony charges of child molestation.

“No matter how many centuries you are sentenced to, they’re going to offer you the opportunity of parole,” Igoe said.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office wants to prevent sexual predators from having their prison time cut short.

“Here’s a perfect example of someone that’s 75 years old and still actively molesting, taking advantage of young victims, ruining not only their childhood, but their entire life as well as the lives of their family members,” Igoe said.

Candies is currently in the Sacramento County Main Jail with bail set at $1 million.
