Miles Hubbard Sweet

OBITUARY

Miles Hubbard Sweet, a long-time resident of San Diego County, died March 14, 2026 of complications from cancer. Born in Chicago on February 7, 1943, his parents William Sweet and Ileen Kennedy moved to San Diego about 1945.

Miles graduated from Point Loma High in 1960. He served in the Army 1967-69 near Tay Ninh. Vietnam, finishing his career as a platoon leader and 1st Lieutenant with two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

Miles earned a degree in Physics from San Diego State. He worked at Aerojet Electrosystems then transferred back to San Diego toKP-SD-BER@kp.org, the Navy Electronics Lab, later known as SPAWARS, from which he retired in 2003.

Among his many interests and passions were surfing, sailing, avocado farming, stocks, gadgets, computers, small planes, and many branches of science, especially optics and astronomy. He built two telescopes and was hoping to finish the observatory near his Ramona home. He’ll be remembered for his love of games, puzzles, humor and mechanical equipment.

He is survived by his wife Joan Seitz, daughter Joanna Miles, brother Ken Sweet, sister Kandis Collins and a fond multitude of nieces, nephews and their children.
