Kruz Schoolcraft, the 25th overall pick and the Padres’ top prospect as ranked by MLB.com, will return to low Single-A Lake Elsinore to start the 2026 season.

Schoolcraft, 18, made his professional debut during the final weekend of the minor league season last year, striking out four and allowed two runs on one hit and three walks over 1⅔ innings in a start.

Other top-30 prospects starting the season in the California League include shortstop Jorge Quintana (7), catchers Ty Harvey (8) and Truitt Madonna (24), outfielders Ryan Wideman (9) and Kale Fountain (10) and right-hander Bryan Balzer (29).
