A multi-vehicle crash on the northbound 215 Freeway in Riverside Sunday night has left at least one person dead and four others hospitalized, including two infants, authorities said.

The crash was reported at 7:35 p.m. on the northbound Escondido Freeway south of Eucalyptus Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Upon arrival, officers said at least one party was trapped inside the car. Two infants and two adults were taken to a nearby hospital.

A SigAlert was issued around 8:06 p.m. for at least two hours but was later extended at 9:51 p.m. for an additional two hours.

All northbound lanes of I-215 remained closed.

The cause of the investigation is ongoing.
