SAN JOSE — A teen boy was arrested on suspicion of DUI following a crash that killed another motorist early Sunday on Curtner Avenue near Highway 87, police said.
The deadly collision was reported around 1:05 a.m. According to an initial San Jose police investigation, a 17-year-old boy was driving a 2022 Honda Accord west on Curtner when he hit a 2003 Chevy Malibu turning onto the eastbound lanes from the southbound Highway 87 offramp.
Police said the Chevy driver died at the scene. His name was not publicly released pending his formal identification and notification of his next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
The boy and the woman riding with him were taken to a hospital and are expected to survive. After being treated, police said, the boy was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and vehicular manslaughter, and was booked at county Juvenile Hall.
The crash marked the city’s 10th traffic death of the year investigated by San Jose police; there were seven traffic deaths by the same point in 2025, according to data compiled by this news organization.
