Bahader Singh Dheer, 40, was caught by a K9 unit hiding in his neighbor’s backyard after threatening to kill his family, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said.

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, Calif. — A man suspected of threatening to kill his family and spending hours in a standoff with law enforcement was arrested early Sunday morning in Antelope.

Deputies said they responded around 7:30 p.m. to the 5100 block of Antler Run Place because Bahader Singh Dheer, 40, threatened to kill his wife, family and their dog. He was allegedly hiding in his neighbor’s backyard around 1 a.m. when he was caught by K9 Dax, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Before his capture, authorities said they established a perimeter and called for Dheer to surrender, but he allegedly refused.

The SWAT team responded with armored vehicles, drones, military equipment and K9s as well as assistance from the Citrus Heights Police Department, the sheriff’s office said.

“Your house is surrounded by the Sacramento County SWAT team. There is nowhere for you to go. We are not leaving,” a negotiator can be heard saying in video of the incident posted to social media.

His family reportedly made it out safely before he was detained by the K9 unit. He was treated at a local hospital before being booked into Sacramento County Main Jail, deputies said.

What is he accused of?

Dheer faces three felony charges including corporal injury, threats to commit a crime and assault with a deadly weapon or instrument; he faces a misdemeanor accusing him of willfully resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, corrections records show.

Deputies also accused him of hitting a metal pole with his car and making threats before locking himself inside the home. They believed he had access to a firearm, according to law enforcement.

Dheer’s bail is set at $100,000, and he is expected to appear Tuesday afternoon in Sacramento County Superior Court, per jail records.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Amar Gandhi said Saturday night amid the standoff that the area was not one deputies frequent.

“Our threat level’s pretty high on this and out of abundance of precaution, we’re not dealing with an isolated place in an empty warehouse in the middle of nowhere,” Gandhi said. “It’s a very heavily populated area, lots of families. It’s really a great neighborhood where we don’t really frequent, so something we’re going to exercise a lot of caution with.”
